Heaven, where is it? How do we get there?
That was the heading of a program I was watching on mbc4 for the American prominent anchor Barbra Walters, I was very excited watching it, since I like those kinds of shows I was concentrating and enjoying. She was discussing the concept of heaven in different religions, and what people believe and think.
She has interviewed different personalities, for instance Richard gere, Tibetan Buddhists, Cardinals, Muslim leaders, evangelicals, would-be suicide bomber, atheists and people who felt they had died and gone to heaven.
There is no doubt that all of us had thought of heaven at some point, and we all wish to be there. Moreover, according to some religions, its followers will be saved and the non-believers will go to hell. However, the concept of heaven and life is different from a religion to another.
According to Christianity heaven is being with the lord in his kingdom, however to Muslims heaven is enjoying the forbidden pleasures that were on earth, in addition to practicing everything that was on earth, but no wars or killing” There r other things concerning heaven in Islam, but I don’t want to discuss them in this piece of writing”.
The Buddhists do not believe in heaven; however they believe that life is the road to nirvana. Walters interviewed Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people; he is really a very nice, humble and funny man. She asked him if he was a God, he laughed and said of course not.
The show was interesting, until she had interviewed the would-be suicide bomber about heaven. I still don’t get it why would she interview a suicide bomber about heaven….she just asked some non-sense questions about heaven including the 70-72 women God promises to give to men in heaven” 7or 3en”!!! I was really pissed off…. What about jihad? He added I wanted to kill Jews…..what this has to do with heaven….Just showing how bad Muslims are and cruel….trying to kill the innocent Jews!!
She didn’t mention any true reason behind why suicide bombers blow themselves up
The picture to audience was that this suicide bomber wanted to go to heaven to marry the “7or 3en”.She even asked him will I go to hell? He said yes because you’re not Muslim. I couldn’t believe how bias she is ….
She had also interviewed an Islamic scholar, I searched for his name “Faisal Abdul Rauf….which I found not very helpful, I can’t recall what he said, but she asked him if she will go to hell. He said he doesn’t know or you can’t say someone in particular is going to hell, only God’s knows. I was expecting things like what a Muslim can do in his life to reach heaven, like praying, fasting…etc. However none of these things were mentioned.
I can’t deny that the show was interesting and helpful to get to know other religions, however Walters was bias when it comes to Islam. I do really believe that there is vicious attack on Islam in the western Media especially the American, since the attack of 11th September, which I suppose was the scenario for invading Iraq.
Finally, heaven to nearly all religions is a place where you are happy with the people u love.
With her sweet and innocent face she came and asked me, I want to have an e-mail!!
She is my little sister Nesreen, I was a little bit surprised not for a reason, but why would a 9 years-old child have an e-mail. I remember when I was her age; I used to play with friends, toys and read Mickey’s stories……etc. Oh I forgot we are in the 21st century, were children spend their time playing with play station, games on the computer and watching TV that will almost destroy their little minds.
She told me, my friend has an e-mail and I want to chat with her! My reaction was, I’ll say that in Arabic “lsa ma f2sty mn el beda wo bedak t3mly chat” sorry cannot translate that. She used to see me using my computer, and learned some easy things about computers at school, but she doesn’t know how other things work.
What happened let me wonder will I let my children use computers at an early age? I see very small kids age 5 or 6 using computers and playing games, which is okay. However, using the internet I might be a little bit concerned, and parents should always check on their children when using the internet. I might check on my son or I will check who my daughter is chatting with, so that she doesn’t chat with some ba****, liars..!!(Hmmmm)
Back to my sister, I let her use my messenger she was very happy with all those small emoticons and winks. And spend the time, showing her how to use some easy things. However, learning basic things about computers is necessary for everyone, I believe in the up coming years everything will be related to computers” hopefully in Arab countries!!” Even studying at school, kids can bring their laptops instead of books and notebooks “who knows what might happen” it will be much easier instead of holding theirs heavy bags.
So definitely I will let my children use computers at an early age, who knows maybe my son will be the next Bill Gates!!
