The Yellowman of Aleppo

Aleppo has been voted the Islamic capital of culture for the year 2006. Now, there are many reasons why that is, cleanliness and order are certainly not one of them, but a collection of freaks is.

Following is an account of the Yellowman of Aleppo. A marvelous tourist attraction, and a unique Syrian enigma.

Not much is known about the Yellowman, except that he wears yellow…all the time. Yellow socks, yellow cap, yellow shirt and pants, yellow moustache….he even has a yellow cell phone. Speculation as to the color of his underwear is rife…I suspect it’s yellow too. This mysterious anomaly started appearing in and around Aleppo’s Bab Faraj region about 25 years ago, where he still lives today, in a hotel. It’s not known what this man, well into his fifties, does for a living, but some say he’s actually a pimp. He’s been spotted at night, in the company of dubious looking women. so you could say he’s “da original Syrian pimpin”…..

As to the origin of his strange obsession, some say that he used to be an ordinary customs official, until succumbing to “The Daily Syrian Stress Cycle“.

Other cultural icons of the city include a man who thinks that he’s a mini cab! no, not a mini cab driver…a mini cab…he runs around the streets holding an imaginary steering wheel and honking an invisible horn, and even stops at traffic lights. There’s also a man who thinks he’s a traffic cop. He routinely whistles at cars and pedestrians, and writes imaginary traffic tickets on thin air!!!

well i’ve heard some weird stuff about this guy..
since i dont live in aleppo,i didn’t know he exist but i noticed him when i was with family in this area.
it was quite strange we all looked at him as if he is from another planet !!
i think we the 7alabi ppl should be proud that we have a yellowman ,whereothers don’t !! “kidding”

Hey.. these pics give me some nostalgic memories of the days I worked in Sahre3 Baron… very cool pics.. who got close enough to the guy to take them?

You forgot to mention the couple wierdos you see in Jamilieh.. the transvestitie.. and the old woman in fishnet stockings who is believed to be an old concubine…

you know its time we had a super heroe.
its time syria contributed a super hereo that can combat evil scientists and mad doctors… its time for THE YELLOWMAN.
A valued addition to the team of justice we all grew up reading about. I bet under that suit, he sports a tight yellow lycra super heroe costume with big Y letter stitched on the chest.
Yellow-man might just be the saviour we’ve been waiting for,… whenever danger is around or crime is being committed, we can be sure he’ll be there to piss on it.

and he is not crazy as you are saying in this stupid page

you can go and ask him directly way he is wearing yello clothes anfd he will give you the answer

and you will find a big story behind this yello colthes

A yellow man.. its my first time to hear a name like this.. whatever its a cool color and i like that color too.. they say yellow color is for stupid and whoever wearing yellow shirt is stupid.. i dont think so.. so much for that its nice reading your blog..lol.
